Community Speedwatch is funded by the Parish Council. It is run by Dorset Police. This is an educational process designed to slow traffic down when they are exceeding the speed limit. The devices do not take photographs but record speed at a long range. The optimum speed is locked in. The group of 3 or 4 volunteers must record the speed of the vehicle, registration number, make of vehicle, colour and time of the event. Speeding vehicles are reported to Dorset Police who in turn send letters to offenders. CSW Teams can also report mobile phone users and drivers eating and drinking at the wheel. In extreme cases a prosecution is made.
The CSW Team is given the location by the police.
The A350 is heavily used, daylight hours 600+ vehicles per hour, up to over 1000.
If you would like to be a member of the Team please contact the Parish Clerk who will pass your information onto the Local Co-ordinator – charltonmarshall@dorset-aptc.gov.uk.
All new members are given training by Dorset Police.
